How long to visit luxembourg

If you tire or are looking to see a little more, the city has a wonderful bike share program that is free! Sticking with the free theme, during my 48 hours in Luxembourg the country was preparing for the upcoming EU presidency.

To celebrate this, the city offered free Wi-Fi throughout the town. This central square is a popular spot for city held festivities and events.

I picked up a Luxembourg Card at the Visit Luxembourg office and headed out on an included walking tour of the city. This museum of art, history, and science is one of the many museums with access included thanks to the Luxembourg Card. I had intended on visiting a couple of different museums on my tour of the city but found myself intrigued by the massive MNHA.

We ended our first day in Luxembourg with a stroll through the busy Christmas market. Although I was visiting in the holiday season, Luxembourg holds several outdoor festivals throughout the year. As I leafed through the included guide of my Luxembourg Card I started to realize how many cool things there are beyond Luxembourg city.

With only 48 hours in Luxembourg to spend, I could only pick one and chose the tiny town of Vianden in the north. Why Vianden? The Vianden Castle. Although Luxembourg is home to over castles and large manor homes, the Vianden Castle dominates over its hometown like no other. Non-tardy visitors can tour this 11th-century castle between 10 AM and 4 PM and in the summer months, take a gondola ride up the adjacent hill for a view of it all.

Unlike other European capitals, Luxembourg is full of green spaces, just waiting to be discovered. Throughout the summer, there are plenty of concerts in many of the parks throughout the city.

Day Three is all about getting a feel for the rest of the country. Take a day trip away from the city center itself and experience castles, local food and plenty of lush green forests. Public transport is fast and reliable throughout the country. Like most of Europe, Luxembourgers drive on the right-hand side of the road. If I were to choose one place to visit in Luxembourg, it would be Vianden! A fairytale castle towers above a fairytale town. The magical settlement has long attracted visitors from far and wide… even the famous French author Victor Hugo.

A visit to Vianden can easily be combined with a trip to nearby 30 minute drive away Clervaux. The castle is home to the Family of Man a photography exhibition curated in the s , a model museum demonstrating the castles of Luxembourg, and a museum dedicated to the battle of Ardennes.

Outside of Luxembourg few people even know it exists, let alone that it's its own country, and I wish everyone knew what I know about it. Luxembourg is certainly worth visiting if you love fairy tale castles.
